John's Story: From Fear to Confidence

In the year and a half that I have worked at Community Family Guidance Center (CFGC), I have had the opportunity to work with a number of children and families who have come to our agency for support, guidance, and counsel. I have selected to share an experience with one family in particular, which I found memorable and inspiring.


Daniella's Story: Healthy Family Relationship

Daniella is a 10 year old Hispanic female who was referred to the Community Family Guidance Center by her social worker because she was recently placed in a foster home by Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) when she was left at home alone with her two younger brothers overnight.  Her mother tested positive for drugs, and agreed to go to a drug rehabilitation facility. 
 


Carlos' Story: New Baby Problems

Carols is a six-year-old boy who lives with his mother and his brand new baby sister who was born three months ago.  Since his sister’s birth, Carlos has been having temper tantrums each night before bed and has begun hitting the other children in his kindergarten class.  His mother brought him to therapy at Community Family Guidance Center to address these issues.  The therapist provided play therapy to Carlos to address his feelings about his new baby sister, of whom he was very jealous.  The therapist also helped his mother by teachi
