“We have been serving customers in Cerritos and the surrounding area for nearly 30 years,” said Kathy Fisher, store manager of Nordstrom Cerritos. “Our opening gala provides us with the continued opportunity to give back to the community who has supported us for so many years.”
“We are honored to be chosen as a beneficiary of the Nordstrom Los Cerritos Opening Gala. The funds received will allow the Center to provide mental health services to children and adolescents who are victims of abuse, as well as those with severe emotional disturbances, who would not otherwise be seen due to their family’s financial situation,” said Richard Murase, executive director of Community Family Guidance Center.
“On behalf of the Museum staff and Board of Trustees, we are thrilled to be a part of Nordstrom Los Cerritos Grand Opening. This is a very exciting year for the Museum as we are celebrating sixty years of collecting and exhibiting art in 2010. We continue to be grateful to those who support the Museum, like Nordstrom, thank you for this opportunity,” said Long Beach Museum of Art Executive Director Ron Nelson.
Established in 1976, Community Family Guidance Center is a private, non-profit, MediCal certified mental health service provider. The center offers a comprehensive range of mental health services for children, adolescents, families and caregivers. Their primary mission is to address the mental health needs of children and their caretakers through a comprehensive outpatient counseling and community education program. A key component of the CFGC’s philosophy is that services are affordable, culturally and linguistically appropriate and directed towards the high risk, low income, and under-served population in the community. Their goals are to alleviate trauma of child abuse and mental illness, promote primary prevention skills, and encourage the development of healthy family relationships. They serve the neighborhoods of Artesia, Bellflower, Cerritos, Downey, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, Norwalk, Paramount and areas of Long Beach, and are supported by many prominent names in the community.
The Long Beach Museum of Art was founded in 1950 and in 1977 was honored with full accreditation by the American Association of Museums, which it has since maintained. The Long Beach Museum of Art is a community-based organization that collects and cares for a permanent art collection, presents changing exhibitions in a variety of media and provides engaging educational programming for youth and adults. In serving their mission to be an educational resource to the community, the Museum offers a wide range of activities for all ages. They are a significant educational resource for the Long Beach Unified School District which serves Long Beach, Lakewood, Signal Hill and Avalon. In 2008, the Museum campus received approximately 200,000 visitors and more than 15,000 children, adults and families participated in its art education programs. Additionally, the Museum’s prized permanent collection includes approximately 3,000 paintings, drawings, sculptures, works on paper, and decorative arts objects. Their highest profile exhibits include a 300-year collection of ceramics, early 20th century European art, California Modernism and contemporary art of California. The Museum’s artistic mission has a wide scope regionally and nationally, as visitors to the Museum’s galleries come from all over Southern California and beyond.
