Carlos' Story: New Baby Problems

Carols is a six-year-old boy who lives with his mother and his brand new baby sister who was born three months ago.  Since his sister’s birth, Carlos has been having temper tantrums each night before bed and has begun hitting the other children in his kindergarten class.  His mother brought him to therapy at Community Family Guidance Center to address these issues.  The therapist provided play therapy to Carlos to address his feelings about his new baby sister, of whom he was very jealous.  The therapist also helped his mother by teaching her ways to show Carlos she still cared about him, even though there was a new baby in the house.  Carlos' teachers now report that he is getting along well with the other students, and he has stopped having temper tantrums at bedtime.
